In this video, 1st grade teacher Ms. Meyers describes what make’s AMS special. She values the family atmosphere between the students and teachers because of the collaboration between everyone. Her 1st grade students have the ability interact with each other during “turn and talk” sessions and love to congratulate others for correct answers.

She also describes how busy a typical day at AMS is for 1st graders.  Starting with phonics and the sound for the day, reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students also attend their special classes which consist of mandarin, music, and physical education.

Ms. Meyer’s is hopeful that her students will gain their independence at the end of the school year.
